„The Four Accords“ not only gave me the four chords by which I made small positive changes in my life, but the book also helped me understand the process of „domestication“ and how this „Domest“ shaped my belief systems. One drawback of the book is that some of the chords are too extreme, and if you take them literally, they can cause additional problems in your life if taken without a proverbial grain of salt. However, with a little balance and a sense of openness, these chords can change and alleviate stress. Here is an explanation of the four agreements. The most damaging of these agreements confirm that you are never enough; That you are constantly lagging behind a strange ideal. The result? The agreements you have made, knowingly and unknowingly, are the fundamental source of suffering and aspiration in your life. Worse, they make you a vector of suffering in the world around you. This path begins with the four agreements. These are new ways of life that you can voluntarily follow. These chords are: If you do your best to work hard because you love the task, your work will begin to feel effortless.
Thus, the final agreement – always doing your best – will increase the power of all other chords and help you free yourself. The truth is that everything people say about you is really a reflection of their own dream, of their programming. That`s why the second chord in this book is, „Never take things in person.“ The four agreements have sold about 7.2 million times in the United States. Ruiz wrote this book with the wisdom of Toltec (and a good dose of common sense) to show that we should aspire to personal freedom from the constraints that society – and our own mind – put upon us. His posts among the first two can be summed up as follows: „Be aware of the chords that dictate your reality and have the discipline to change it.“ You could get a little more out of his writing, but not much. Unfortunately, its indications do not go far beyond a well-designed „Just do it“. All these formations become like a set of rules in you. Don Miguel Ruiz calls this your „book of law.“ Why follow all the rules of your book of law? Because they feel safe. Even if some of the rules make you feel unhappy, you don`t break them, because then you will feel insecure. And that`s exactly what happened. I hope that this structure pushes you to take up this book, to learn one or two new things and to broaden your perspective.
Excellent summary. I, too, had the impression that the book echoes you a little on the „how“ recipe. The way I rationalized it reflected on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry`s quote: „If you want to build a boat, don`t gather men and women to collect wood, share work and give orders. Instead, you will teach them to aspire to the distant and endless sea.“ If the goal was to create the most powerful dense work to move people, focus on why to the exclusion of how was the right approach. Anyway, well summarized! In addition to demhur`s book and book, there is also an eBook, a four-colour picture book, a card game and an online course. Even if the chords are sometimes too simplified, it is still a big little book with some heavy ideas. Focusing on one of these chords can dramatically improve your life and reduce stress; Focusing on all four can really change a lot of people`s lives.
